Five Signs Your Car’s Battery Needs Help

Your car can’t do much if the battery isn’t working properly. That means that if you don’t realize your battery is having issues, you could end up stranded somewhere. West Omaha Auto Service doesn’t want that to happen to you. Watch out for these signs of battery issues.

You Can’t Start the Car at All

One of the biggest signs of trouble you can have is that your car just doesn’t start at all. If the problem is elsewhere, you might see that the car is at least trying to start. When the problem is the battery, though, you might not see anything happen at all. Don’t just jump start the car and go on about your day because this problem will come back if you don’t figure out what’s causing it.

The Exterior of the Battery Looks Bad

If you’re making it a habit to look at your battery now and again, you can start to spot physical changes in the battery’s exterior that let you know something is up. One easy issue to spot is corrosion on the posts. That looks like a powdery residue on the battery posts. Something else to be alert for are changes in the casing, like cracks or bulges.

Lights Aren’t Very Bright

When you turn the car’s lights on, either interior or exterior, do they seem less bright? That could very easily be the case. Often when your car is having electrical issues of any type, that can affect whether the lights are functioning well at all.

You’ve Got a Battery Warning Light

You may also be lucky enough to get a battery warning light, depending on what’s wrong with your car’s battery. Sometimes the battery gets drained so quickly that you don’t even see this light appear on your car’s dashboard. If you do happen to see the battery warning light, get your battery inspected right away.

You Know the Battery Is Old

There are easy ways to figure out how old your car’s battery is. Sometimes it’s as simple as checking the date on the battery itself. But if you bought the car new, the battery is as old as the car is. Otherwise, there may be a receipt or other information included with the car’s paperwork that helps you to see how old the battery is.
