Tires have a limited lifespan, but that doesn’t mean you’re eager to replace them anytime soon. Tires can have issues well before they should, though, and West Omaha Auto Service wants to help you to recognize when you should replace your car’s tires.
Tread Damage
Your car’s tires lose tread every time you drive, but if you’re noticing that the tread wear is uneven or there’s more tread wear in one spot than in other areas, that’s a problem. Other issues with the tread that you should watch out for include one or more tires that have chunks of tread missing, especially if they look as if they were torn out. If the tread seems to be wearing away faster than it should, that’s another sign of trouble.
Other Damage
The tread isn’t the only part of the tire that can get damaged, though. If you’re noticing that the sidewalls of the tires seem to look blistered or thinner in some spots than others, that’s a sign of possible weakness in those areas. Scuff marks on the tire or the rims can also indicate that the tires have received damage that might not be visible to you.
Handling Problems
How the car handles is another big clue for you. As you’re driving, pay attention to how the car feels. If it feels as if the steering wheels keeps fighting you or the car is pulling in one direction, that can be a sign of wheel or tire trouble. Also, if you’re feeling vibrations as you drive, the tires could be the cause. Ruling out other issues, like steering problems, can lead you to checking the tires for damage.
Inconsistent Air Pressure
Tire pressure is constantly changing in your tires, but usually only by small amounts. If you’re noticing that you need to put air in one or more of your tires on a regular basis to keep it inflated, that’s a big sign of trouble. Tires that can’t maintain air pressure could have issues with the valve stems or with the tires themselves. Either way, it’s something you need to get checked out in order to keep your car safe on the road.
