My Car’s Engine Isn’t Producing Any Power

If your car’s engine is not producing enough power, it may be time to replace it. West Omaha Auto Service is going to discuss power loss in greater detail below. We will also list the other reasons why an engine needs to be replaced. If your car is valuable to you and you plan to keep it the rest of your life, there will come a time when the engine will need to be replaced. Let’s talk more about this below.

Constant Overheating

If your engine is overheating constantly, it’s possible that it has sustained serious damage such as a cracked block. A cracked engine block cannot be repaired. If this is what is causing the overheating, the engine will need to be replaced. Your engine may also be overheating constantly because you have a cracked exhaust manifold gasket, a cracked head gasket, or a malfunctioning catalytic converter.

Excess Engine Exhaust

Any time you see a ton of exhaust coming out of the tailpipe, your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s engine is in serious trouble. Black exhaust means that there is a fuel problem. Blue exhaust is representative of an oil problem. White exhaust means the engine is hemorrhaging coolant. Serious engine damage, such as a cracked head gasket, can cause the engine to release excessive amounts of exhaust.

Irreparable Power Loss

As we said above, if your engine is no longer producing power, it may need to be replaced. As with any piece of machinery, the engine has a lifespan that will eventually reach its end. Once this happens, no amount of engine repair will restore its power. Unfortunately, it will be time to retire the existing engine and install a new engine into your automobile to restore power to the vehicle.

Loud Knocking Sounds

Loud knocking sounds can be an indication of serious trouble in your automobile’s cylinder block. This can be an indication that the rod bearings have worn out and the pistons are slamming against the cylinder walls. This can cause serious damage to the cylinder block. It can also break a rod, which renders your engine useless and irreparable.

Metal in the Motor Oil

Finally, if you see metal in your vehicle’s motor oil, the engine is disintegrating. Your engine will likely die before you ever know that there is metal in the oil. Usually, once this happens, the engine will die hours later. We cannot fix a disintegrating engine; we have to replace it. Call West Omaha Auto Service in Omaha, NE if your engine is having any of the problems listed above. We will inspect the engine thoroughly and advise the next step.
