Why Isn’t My Car’s AC Working?

We get it here at West Omaha Auto Service. You turned on your car’s AC because you need cold air blowing through the vents. Actually, to be completely honest with you, right now is the perfect time for an air conditioner inspection and service. This makes certain that you can rely on this cooling system when things get too hot inside your car, truck, or utility vehicle. Here are the common problems that we can fix so you can enjoy cold air all summer long.

Low Refrigerant

If your vehicle’s air conditioner is on yet you’re getting hot air blowing through the vents, or even if the air is lukewarm, you may have low refrigerant levels in the system. Air conditioner refrigerant slowly evaporates over time, which is why an annual AC inspection is important. This not only allows us to top off the refrigerant if it is low but also to check for leaks around the connectors, which happens frequently.

Broken Condenser

The air conditioner condenser has a tough job. It’s responsible for condensing the refrigerant to make it cold so your interior air is cold. The condenser is located in the front of your vehicle’s engine, and although it is protected by the grille, it gets pelted by any road debris that is small enough to make it through the slats. This not only breaks the condenser but can also clog it, which means you’ll end up with hot air.

Electrical Malfunction

Your car’s AC system cannot work if there is an electrical malfunction in your vehicle associated with the air conditioner. The problem is hopefully something simple, such as a blown fuse that can quickly be replaced. It could also be an electrical wiring problem. Either way, there’s no need to panic. We are experienced with vehicle electrical systems, and we can fix any electrical malfunction that is preventing your air conditioner from working properly.

Failed Compressor

The air conditioner compressor is quite a unique part. The more you use it the better it works, so this might sound strange, but it’s a good idea to turn on your automobile and run the air conditioner for at least 15 minutes even in the winter. You don’t need to be in your car at the time. If the compressor is worn out, however, you won’t get cold air blowing through your vents and it will need to be replaced.

Fan Malfunction

Finally, without fans you won’t have air. Your fans could malfunction, or the electricity that powers them could be the problem. Again, do not worry. West Omaha Auto Service has two auto service shops in Omaha, NE. Choose the one that is closer to you and call us today for an air-conditioning service appointment.
